Project Overview

This project documents the development of a handcrafted shoulder bag that combines traditional materials with precise detailing. The bag is currently in production and represents an ongoing exploration of the connection between leatherwork and woodworking.

The body of the bag is made from black, vegetable-tanned leather, chosen for its durability and natural aging properties. The front panel is crafted from solid oak, creating a strong contrast between warm wood grain and matte leather surface. Leather and wood are stitched together, making the construction itself a visible design feature. This deliberate combination highlights the craftsmanship behind the object and emphasizes the material transition rather than hiding it. The bag is closed using an integrated magnetic system. Small magnets are recessed into a wooden strip embedded in the leather flap. These align precisely with a metal strip hidden inside the oak front panel, creating a clean, secure closure without visible hardware.

The project focuses on precision, material honesty, and long-term usability. Even in its unfinished state, the bag reflects a design approach centered on durability, clarity of construction, and timeless aesthetics.
